Is Self Publishing the way to go?

By -

There are many of us that must have dreamed of becoming an author. Maybe as a child you read so many books and fell in love with reading. And later you felt that you can craft a beautiful story and you perhaps did!! Or even further, you scored the highest grade in your college writing projects. As a teenager you took pride with your writing work and felt so confident that you are emerging to be a famous author!!

One fine day, you complete your manuscript and send to every possible agent, small or big publisher; literally everyone and all you get in return are “rejections.” Then you get so depressed and demotivated that you decide to leave your dream and career as a writer. Thankfully, now you don’t have to be disheartened anymore. You can become an author and publish your book without having to face rejections!!

Traditional publishing route was so laborious, tedious and paid less royalties compared to the Independent/Self publishing. There are a lot of hoops to pass with traditional publishing, which are not needed anymore. For those of you that have been traditionally published and happy with that; it’s great news. For the rest of us who are dreaming to be successful authors, there are great and easy to publish platforms: Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing(KDP), Barnes and Noble nookpress, Kobo, Smashwords, ibooks. While Amazon KDP remains the biggest market place among all other platforms; the others are also doing an amazing job at paying out higher royalties.

There used to be a stigma associated with self publishing early on but not anymore. There are many successful self published authors that are making six figure income from their ebooks and choosing to self publish. They are many titles that hit the NY times bestsellers list from Indie publishers and continuing to grow exponentially producing faster and higher quality ebooks. If you are able to put words to form the story that you have aspired to or have already written a book which is hiding somewhere in the back of the shelves or hidden in your computer files, take it out and do one final good edit and publish it on Amazon. (Remember good quality book is the first step to success, so don’t neglect the editing process)Your book will be available on the kindle platform for a number of readers within 24-48 hours.

Happy Writing 🙂

Which route would you like to choose as a first time author? Self publishing or Traditional publishing? Why or why not?

Writing is what I do for the love of it. The passion for writing has always been there with me but discovering it happened later. One famous poet rightly said: "A word is mightier than a sword." And I am a firm believer of that saying. Through words, a writer can inspire, motivate, and take the reader to a different world. My first work of fiction #fortunefair is available on Amazon.
